Quilters often talk about having a quilty bucket list. For me, there were only a few to tick off my list: Clam Shell quilt, Double Wedding Ring quilt and Drunkards Path Quilt. I’m pleased to say there is now only two left on that list! May I present my rainbow version – Up the garden path quilt….
Consisting of over 115 Lizzy House prints (from my last #aussiecharmswap), and a bunch of Sarah Jane and Heather Ross prints, this darling quilt has been an absolute delight to put together!
My fabulous Mum just happened to have the dies for her Accuquilt cutter, so I asked to play with it, and was MORE than happy with how bloody easy it makes cutting a whole quilt out! So much so, I’m going to invest in one myself!
I used one of my favourite background fabrics, a Cotton + Steel basic in silver. I’ve now used it in several quilts, and can’t see myself stopping anytime soon. It makes the prints sing.
When it came to quilting, I used a 28 weight Aurifil thread in a variegated #4651. And I kept it super simple and sweet, with meandering swirls throughout. If you’ve never used 28 weight thread for quilting before, you really need to give it a go! It gives an amazing texture to your quilt top! Check out the pretty colours in this thread…
And as always, Melbourne provided the most perfect blustering wind for my photography this afternoon! I must have looked hilarious standing in the local park watching a quilt blow around whilst pointing a camera! But as you can see, there’s some yummy apricot colours Lizzy House Pearl Bracelets in the backing 😉
This beauty is the first handmade Christmas gift finish for 2016! It’s a slippery slope here onwards!
