Precisely 14 months ago, I finished a quilt top using the charms squares I had acquired from the Bonnie & Camille #aussiecharmswap. It was a fabulously fast and furious swap, with devotees to the cause keen to get things moving! We ended up with 112 gorgeous prints from the designers, and although they are not my usual “cup of tea”, I had fun working with them….
When I did my self-audit last week, it made me reflect on all the quilt tops I had just sitting there ready to be finished, and I decided I would jump in to the 2016 Finish Along. It was just the persuasion I needed. Obviously! Because a week later, I have a finished quilt!
Although it is a super simple layout, I think the 9 patches suit the fabrics SO well!
I added in some little bow-tie corner stones, and think they add to the cutesy effect.
I decided to keep the quilting simple too. And used the squiggly lines I’ve only just recently discovered on my Bernina! I used a 40wt white Aurifil, and kept the lines 2.5″ apart, horizontally. I also added three rows vertically – just because!
The backing is the most divine light canvas/drill. Sometime last year, a friend who works for a surf store asked me if I would like a few metres of specially designed Liberty print? They had it printed for their store, but didn’t need it. Well – SURE!!! I had no used for it up until now, and it works beautifully on this quilt. The binding is a yummy navy print from the Daysail range.
Finished measurements for this one are a little odd, in that it’s 82″ x 50″ – so a little longer than usual! But I guess that’s what happens when you want to utilise a certain number of 5″ squares 😉
The quilt has a recipient and purpose, and shall be gifted very soon. I’m just happy to be off and racing for the year!
