Tula Grande

It’s taken a little time to get this baby finished, but she was a grande old dame, who deserved some grand treatment!  There was never any doubt that someone else had to quilt her, because her stature was a little more than mine could handle!  So, a week ago, I picked her up and endeavoured to get her finished.  And here she is…….in all her glory…… Isn’t she lovely?  Photographing her proved a little difficult also, but I took the small window of … Continue Reading »

HAWKS Aussie Heroes Quilt Tutorial

I promised you a tutorial, and I’m keeping my promise!  This is a fairly simple quilt to whip up, and if you ever want to make an Aussie Hero Quilt, (or a quilt for service men/women from your country!) then this will give you the perfect measurements.  If you wish to make it bigger, then of course, just make some more blocks to add to the width and/or length!  But for today’s tutorial, we will end up with a quilt measuring 42″ x … Continue Reading »

A Hawks Quilt – Aussie Hero Quilts

Most of the time, I keep a to-do list.  2015’s to-do lists quite often had “Aussie Hero Quilt” scrawled in to a week I thought I’d have time.  Unfortunately, I never found that time, and as I rolled in to 2016, I wanted to make this a priority. I’m super happy to say I managed to do so, and a couple of weeks ago I emailed JM at Aussie Hero Quilts, and asked her to send me the request list.  As I looked … Continue Reading »

For Fraser

Exactly two weeks and two days ago, I took a chance and asked my quilty #aussiecharmswap friends if they could help me out.  You see, I needed to make a quilt  with a quick turnaround, and was flying out for a week’s holiday the following day.  So whilst lying awake in bed the night before, I thought it was worth a try…… My best friend’s (Jodie) Dad has been going through a pretty impressive battle with cancer, and he’s given it everything he’s … Continue Reading »

First Finish for 2016 – B&C Charm Quilt

Precisely 14 months ago, I finished a quilt top using the charms squares I had acquired from the Bonnie & Camille #aussiecharmswap.  It was a fabulously fast and furious swap, with devotees to the cause keen to get things moving!  We ended up with 112 gorgeous prints from the designers, and although they are not my usual “cup of tea”, I had fun working with them…. When I did my self-audit last week, it made me reflect on all the quilt tops I … Continue Reading »

2015 – In A Nutshell

A fabulous hashtag took over Instagram this week – #bestnine2015 – which chooses nine photos on your IG account with the most “likes”.  I jumped on the band wagon, and was reminded of some wonderful projects made, and received, this year…. Granted – A few of these projects are not mine!  The delightful pink mini was made for me by Sheila, Chelsea made her own quilt, the #sewingforsydney quilt top and that stunning AMH quilt mid-left is by Laurelle!  But sharing is caring … Continue Reading »

A Graduation Quilt

Almost one year ago, on a cool New Year’s Eve up on the Murray, my kids were wrapped up in their own quilts and the school principal just happened to be there!  I was asked if I would be interested in making the graduation quilt for 2015?  I actually didn’t even think about it, just said “sure” and left it at that.  Fast forward a couple of months, and I had discussed the plan with teaching staff and waited until the third term … Continue Reading »

Indigenous Fire Star Mini

Remember these? My little purchase of Aboriginal prints, wayyyyyy back in August, from my LQS has been used and abused!  And after deciding on THIS paper pieced pattern by Sew What Sherlock, my stepping outside my comfort zone paid off….. Isn’t she beautiful?  When the Melbourne MQG was contacted by the Edinburgh MQG in Scotland, to see if we wanted to do a swap, I popped my hand up immediately!  My swap partner (Sheila) and I started an email conversation about what we … Continue Reading »

The Bee Hive – Shine Bright

Like a diamond!  You know, Rhianna and all that?  #earworm Welcome to my turn on the great Bee Hive Quilt Block Tutorial Series by Blossom Heart Quilts!  I was thrilled when Alyce asked me wayyyyyyyy back at the beginning of the year if I’d be interested in joining in.  I actually got to work straight away with my design, basically by playing around with different shapes.  In the end, I had a quilt block I really loved, which has an “aztec” feel about … Continue Reading »

Steam Punkin’ – Finito!

Many, many months ago,  I booked in to an “open” class with Jen Kingwell.  Angie from Gnome Angel was going, so I decided to tag along.  I finally bit the bullet and bought Jen’s Steam Punk quilt pattern, in the hope she could teach me how to do some hand sewing.  It was such a wonderful class, and Jen not only taught me how to do a few different hand sewing techniques, she also shared lots of other quilty advice, and we just … Continue Reading »
