Hazel My Hedgehog

When Angie from Gnome Angel asked if I would be interested in joining her Hazel the Hedgehog QAL, I took about one nanosecond to answer – a resounding YES PLEASE!  I bought the pattern from Oh Fransson! last year, but just never had the inclination to get it made!  So this was the perfect time to do it……

I chose the divine Tula Pink’s “Moonshine” range, which has an amazing colour palette.  I divided the range up, and went with the reds, oranges and pinks.  Paired with my favourite grey shot cotton, it has made for a delightful finish!

It took me a while to decide on the fabrics for Haze’s many faces, but I pulled out a variety of low volume prints and I LOVE the end result!

As per usual, I sat down to quilt without any real direction.  I initially wanted to do crazy quilting like Gemma had done for Angie’s finished quilt, but after half an hour of craziness, I pulled it out and spent an hour and a half unpicking it!  Instead, I ended up doing a very free flowing meandering design, with little loops, which always remind me of bumble bees.  Fitting, considering some of the prints have little bees on them!  I used the incredibly versatile Aurifil Dove Grey.  It blended beautifully with the shot cotton.

The backing was purchased at my last MQG sewing day.  The full sunlight helps this print explode!  It’s a bit like – business on the front, party on the back!

Isn’t she lovely?
